Snow is WhiteOn context and documentary strategies

FOTODOK presents Snow is White, an exhibition of work by Rob Johannesma, Florian Göttke, Geert van Kesteren, Gert Jan Kocken and Lidwien van de Ven.

The photographs deal with the effect and meaning of images in the media and the perception of them. They also critically question the context in which the images are presented. The work is the result of the investigative process of the documentary photographer and blurs the boundary between journalistic and documentary photography, communication studies and art history.

The exhibition Snow is White and FOTODOK LIVE! are the conclusion of Looking over the Shoulder of.., an annual programme segment which, this year, gave the public insight into the photographic practices of Joris Jansen and Theo Baart. Throughout 2010 they reported on their observations, discoveries and conclusions, and engaged in a dialogue with each other. Jansen was responsible for the final presentation and Baart for the FOTODOK LIVE! programme. Looking 2010 will be published at the end of January.
